I graduated from the University of Geneva. I entered the PhD program in the Department of molecular biology and completed my thesis in 1983. As a post-doctoral fellow I joined the developmental neurobiology Laboratory at the Salk Institute for biological studies in La Jolla, USA, and then the Department of higher brain function at Washington University, School of medicine, St Louis, USA. Back in Switzerland, I was appointed Research associate in the laboratory of Pr. Marc Ballivet. In 2001, I established my research group in the Department of ophthalmology, School of medicine at the University of Lausanne. In 2006, I joined the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Geneva as a senior lecturer and principal investigator. Since then, the work of my research group has focused on the transcriptional network underlying the retina development in vertebrates.
